Finance Operations Manager

📍 Location: Colombo  |  Employment Type: Full-Time  |  Reports To: Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Role Overview

The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the Almas Equities subsidiary, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, financial discipline, and operational efficiency. This role is critical in maintaining strong financial controls, timely reporting, and adherence to capital market regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Manage daily financial operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, payables, receivables, and settlements.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with IFRS and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure timely submission of all reports required by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), and other authorities.

  • Oversee broker back-office financial processes and integration with trading systems.

  • Oversee regular update of the accounting and/or front office systems.

  • Train & upskill junior team members and new recruits.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with financial obligations such as capital adequacy, audit, and reporting requirements as per regulatory bodies.

  • Monitor and maintain Net Capital and Liquid Capital Adequacy in accordance with regulatory thresholds.

  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting related to client funds, segregation of funds, and transaction compliance.

  • Coordinate with auditors during annual and regulatory audits.

Treasury & Cash Flow Management

  • Manage daily liquidity, cash flow planning, and bank reconciliations.

  • Oversee client fund movements, settlement cycles, and custody-related finances.

  • Maintain strong relationships with banks, settlement institutions, and custodians.

Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Strengthen internal financial controls and ensure accuracy in financial data.

  • Monitor credit exposures, margin requirements, and broker trading limits.

  • Identify financial risks and implement preventive controls.

  • Support compliance and risk teams on reporting and financial monitoring.

Budgeting, Analysis & Business Support

  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.

  • Provide performance analytics including commission income, trading volumes, product profitability, and client segmentation.

  • Support senior management with financial insights to improve efficiency and profitability.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Oversee junior finance and accounting staff; provide training and supervision.

  • Work closely with operations, compliance, and trading teams to ensure smooth financial workflows.

  • Coordinate with Group Finance on consolidation, reporting deadlines, and policy alignment.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance; professional qualification preferred (CA, ACCA, CIMA).

  • Minimum 5–8 years experience in financial/accounting roles, ideally within stock broking, capital markets, or financial services.

  • Strong understanding of SEC/CSE regulations, capital adequacy, client fund rules, and settlement processes.

  • Proficiency in financial systems, broker back-office platforms, and MS Excel.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
